Why Podcasts?

Podcasts, podscrolls, vodasts, vidcasts – what is all the fuss about and why is everyone talking about them?

In their various forms, podcasts are really just short radio or television programmes produced in a format which can be downloaded either onto a PC, Mac, MP3 or MP4 player. Most mobile phones can also play podcast sound and video files. Estimates show that there are now approximately 20 million portable MP3 players in the UK and USA alone, and countless mobile phones – that's a lot of people watching or listening to your brochures online.

Sometimes podcasts are informative documentaries, evocative reconstructions, trails around a city, stately home or garden, useful directions to points of interest, a language phrase book or just plain relaxing entertainment. They are also proving to be a cost effective and simple way to attract visitors to a destination or attraction prior to and during their visit.

They are easy to download, the software for your computer is usually free, and now, thanks to the iPod and the numerous portable MP3 players on the market, visitors can bring their podcasts with them - wherever they go.
